Week 35: October 20-26th, 2024

NUMBERS OF THE WEEK

STEPS: 5190

I made efforts to go out for a few walks this week and it made me feel so good.

Thoughts on walking in the fall:

The unique sounds of fall; crunching leaves underfoot, the light swishing of kicking a pile of dry leaves. The special feeling of being cold and warm at the same time in the morning light where there is light beaming down, but a light frost still sits on the leaf about to gone, but soon to return

WEIGHT: Did not count

I know I need to get back into it. My slip has become a slide and with Halloween around the corner, I have dipped into the treats that I was specifically keeping in my car.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Celebration of Life for Nanny Kelly

https://www.dignitymemorial.com/en-ca/obituaries/halifax-ns/margaret-kelly-12029922

Even though I knew it was coming, I wasn’t ready. I didn’t get to say goodbye because I had Covid. However, my last visit with her when she was in hospital was absolutely wonderful. She was her usual self, funny and loving with a sense of adventure. Not the frail, delirious lady she had been the previous week. It may have been a rally, but I am forever thankful for it.

Her Celebration of Life was sad because we will miss her, but it was also incredible because we truly got to reflect on the amazing person she was. I am choosing to think of all I have gained from having her love, certainly I am better person for it.

MUSIC OF THE WEEK

This Must Be the Place: Talking Heads

I wasn’t really into listening to music this week. Sometimes there is just too much raw emotion and nothing seems to quell the feelings. I’m not a huge fan of Talking Heads, but this song always makes me feel good.

BOOK OF THE WEEK

The Stand: Stephen King

FINALLY!!! That’s about the only thing I can say about this book. I love Stephen King, but this book was about 500 pages too long. It took me over 2 months to finish. Definitely a marathon (over 1300 pages). Don’t misunderstand me, it is an awesome story about Good vs Evil and takes place in a post-pandemic world. The characters are interesting and you become easily invested in their arc. But. . . . . there are too many of them and flipping back and forth from group to group and place to place can be confusing. There was also a lot of mundane details that I don’t think enhanced this epic novel.

I only gave it 3/5 on Goodreads, but it will not deter me from my Bucket List goal of reading his entire anthology.
