HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
Vacation with my Ladies

My mother and my sister mean everything to me. They are my rocks. They are my anchors. They are my compass. They are my best friends. For years we have been talking about going down to Maine & New Hampshire for a little shopping vacation. Life always gets in the way of making things like this happen: finances, work/personal committments, timing, etc., but this year we made it happen. We went to North Conway, New Hampshire and Portland, Maine.

Highlights include: Chick Fil A, great shopping finds, only one road accident that gave us time to read the funny freeway signs like “if you don’t get off your cell you may find yourself in one”, and spectacular weather with only a brief rain shower, it was sunny and gorgeous every single day. Beyond all of that, spending time with my ladies was the best part without a doubt. I downloaded Dateline’s to listen to and we didn’t even get through a single episode because we just chatted the whole way. I can’t wait to do it again!

BOOK OF THE WEEK

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

I read every night before I go to bed. I am not a prolific reader because I am usually pretty tired when I get in bed. I find I usually only read 20-30 pages before I start to get heavy-lidded and find myself re-reading paragraphs.

Doerr won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2014 for this gem.

I was enthralled by this book and couldn’t wait to go to bed to read. The captivating storyline followed the lives of 2 youth during WWII: a Blind French Girl and an Orphaned German Boy. The tragedy of war is overshadowed by the persistent undercurrent of resilience and inherent goodness that I firmly believe we all possess.

5 Stars! Highly recommend!
