NUMBERS OF THE WEEK
Steps: 6525
The mornings were nice and I looked forward to walking to work. I know that I am going to need to make more of an effort to get walks in (or at least more steps) on the days I am not walking to work.
Weight: Same
Probably a bit behind on my goal to lose 1 lb/week. But I am confident in myself that it will all work out. I am focused and determined.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
Swimming
I was really fortunate as a kid to have a membership to the Waegwoltic Club, better known as ‘The Waeg’. It is truly a magical place in the heart of the city that has been open since 1908. My Grandparents brought their kids (my dad and siblings) and we were the kids that went there rain or shine. We would ride our bikes though backstreets and hidden paths along the traintracks, our bag packed with a homemade peanut butter sandwich and pink lemonade from concentrate in a Thermos. This is where we learned how to swim.
I was also really fortunate as a teenager and young adult to work at the Waeg, as a Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor. I also coached the 8 and under group on the Swim Team-The Waeg Waves. This was without question the best job I ever had.
Once I grew up and became a nurse I threw myself into the grind of shiftwork. I stayed out of the pool, and really forgot about the therapeutic benefits of swimming. Not just physical benefits, but being in the water is meditative for me. It sparks a calm nostalgia that is reminiscent of happier, easier days. This week I was able to get in the water a few times and it makes my mind, body and soul feel better.
ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Sade: Lover’s Rock
Sade is a British band, headed by Nigerian-born beauty Sade, who rose to fame in the 1980’s with her hits Smooth Operator and Sweetest Taboo. Her album “Lover’s Rock” was released in late 2000 and this CD was on heavy rotation at my home for years.
Her voice has dulcet tones that ooze with sensuality and are so easy to listen to. They also make you want to fall in love, just so you can slow dance to her gorgeous ballads.
