Week 48: July 21-27, 2024

NUMBERS OF THE WEEK

Steps: 4229 (down)

Not a great start. Not an excuse, but my Apple watch can only keep a charge about 8 hours, which is hard to keep up. I like to wear it to bed so I can track my sleep. I’m probably going to have to upgrade soon.

Weight: Up 0.7

This was really disappointing for me, and I know it’s really only a big poop in the scheme of things, but I worked so hard with my meal prep, didn’t indulge at all and kept all my weeklie WW points. I’m still figuring out the balance my body needs. And I know this is a marathon, not a sprint.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK: Olympic Opening Ceremonies

I love the Olympics! I have even renewed my Cable TV on 2 occasions, just to get coverage.

With homemade pizza in hand, and a cool crisp glass of Diet Pepsi, I settled into watch the opening ceremonies of the XXXIII (33rd) Olympiad being hosted by Paris, France. This is the third time the games have been hosted in Paris (also in 1900 and 1924), a hat trick only shared with London and to be repeated by Los Angeles when they host in 2028.

These Olympics presented many firsts:

  • First Opening Ceremonies to take place outside of a stadium-as athletes from all over the world floated down the Seine (which 1.4 BILLION Euros to clean up)
  • First time seeing Breakdancing, Surfing, Kayaking, Kiteboarding, Skateboarding and Sport Climbing
  • There were a few nations that won their first ever Olympic medal: Albania, Cabo Verde, Domenica, Saint Lucia, and notably, a bronze in Boxing went to Cindy Ngamba from the Refugee Olympic Team.

As a proud Canadian, it was absolutely thrilling to watch Summer MacIntosh, the 17 year old swimming phenom get 3 golds and a silver-we have definitely not seen the last of her. Also kudos to Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, Brendan Rodney and Andre De Grasse for keeping the USA-Canada rivalry alive with GOLD in the 4×100 Men’s Relay.

ALBUM OF THE WEEK

Megan Thee Stallion: Megan

This album was released at the end of the June, and I was super pumped to hear it. I love listening to women rappers: Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Sza and so many more. They are strongly feminine, fiercely independent and taking back their sexual power-and I am here for it!

She extolls the virtue of her vagine in almost every song, and has witty references to her love of anime. She also gives a shout out to Ready Player One, which was the first book I read for my book club- a Sci Fi Dystopian look into the world of Virtual Reality.

Oh yeah, and Meg is a smartie too . . . with a BSc in Health Administration.

Here’s a link to the second single Mamushi with Japanese rapper Yuki Chiba-with an iconic line “put me on his plate, bring them chopsticks to the south”
